The retro look is very popular with modern bikes as seen by the success of The Honda Monkey and many of Triumph’s bikes. So, it’s not surprising that there are retro body kits out there for modern sport bikes like the Yamaha R3 kit from GG Retrofitz. Originally designed as race bike bodywork, I assume, a street kit was developed that gives the R3 the 80’s GP look of bikes like the Yamaha OW60 from 1982- the bike we modeled the graphics scheme after.
Designed to be bolt on ready, it does require some trimming and fitting before painting, though. We started with the bare gel-coat panels and laid out some classic Yamaha speed block graphics and then painted yellow/black and white to match the OW60 scheme. The headlight is a standard 7 in unit that mounts in the supplied gauge/HL mounting bracket and hardware. Here are the pictures of the paint and assembly process.
