This FZ1 and SV650 were in my shop for the past couple of months so I got to ride them both side by side. It is kind of a strange comparison, but I saw a guy on the FZ6 forum asking about which bike would better for him and so I thought I’d weigh in on it. My take is simple- if you have the money to buy either bike (the FZ1 is considerably more expensive) I would have to go with the FZ1 unless all (or most) of your riding is around town and not on the interstate. If you are a short trip, around town or back roads rider, the SV650 is a great bike- light, good handling and great gas mileage. But, if you spend any time on the interstate at all, you will really appreciate the stability and power of the FZ1. The FZ1 isn’t an R1 when it comes to brakes and suspension but it is definitely not a budget bike like the SV either. So, the deciding factors are money (obviously), type of riding, and if you are going to be happy with the smaller bike long term.
