One of my friends had his GPz550 entered in the Daytona Vintage Auction last weekend. His bike was at the tail end of the auction, so he got to sit through the whole thing and watch what the bikes were selling for- or not selling for. One thing he noticed was that most of the bikes had reserves on them and that the reserves were high enough that the bike didn’t sell. One thing that tells you is that people think their bikes are worth more than they are. Kinda like the reality that is hitting the real estate market. Whether the values stay low or bounce back up in year or so just depends on the state of the economy. At any rate, his bike sold for decent money and he did not have a reserve on it. Maybe a little risky, but all in all a good move. One thing I’ve noticed at all the auctions I go to is that bikes with a reserve always have fewer bidders since a reserve has a psychological effect of making people think that the price is too high. You even see this on ebay with things as small as parts and accessories. At any rate, this particular super nice GPz sold for 2800.00 which he thought was a fair price considering the market and economy.
